LIONEL MESSI – THE EL CLÁSICO RECORD HOLDER
Lionel Messi's dominance in El Clásico is one of the most remarkable scoring records in football history. He scored 26 goals in 45 official appearances against Real Madrid during his Barcelona career.
Messi's first El Clásico goal came in March 2007, when Barcelona drew 3-3 with Real Madrid at Camp Nou. He scored a sensational hat-trick that night and immediately announced himself as one of the most dangerous players in the history of the rivalry.
Over the following years, Messi continued to find the net against Madrid at both Camp Nou and the Santiago Bernabéu, eventually overtaking Alfredo Di Stéfano's long-standing record of 18 goals.

DI STÉFANO AND CRISTIANO RONALDO – 18 GOALS
Before Messi took the record, Alfredo Di Stéfano was one of the defining goal scorers in El Clásico history. The Real Madrid legend scored 18 goals against Barcelona and played a major role in establishing Madrid's dominance during the 1950s and 1960s.
Cristiano Ronaldo later matched Di Stéfano's total with 18 goals. Ronaldo's record came during his legendary Real Madrid career, particularly during the era when he and Messi were competing at the highest level of European football.
Although Ronaldo played fewer El Clásico matches than Messi, his scoring record was outstanding, with many of his goals coming during one of the most competitive periods in the history of the rivalry.

Perhaps his most famous Clásico moment came in April 2017. Messi scored twice in Barcelona's 3-2 victory at the Bernabéu, with his second goal arriving in stoppage time. He then held up his Barcelona shirt to the Madrid crowd in one of the most iconic celebrations in the history of the rivalry.

WHY MESSI'S RECORD IS SO SPECIAL
Scoring 26 goals against Real Madrid is extraordinary because El Clásico is played under enormous pressure and features some of the best defenders and goalkeepers in football.
Messi's record is even more impressive because his goals came across different competitions and different generations of Real Madrid teams. From the late 2000s through the late 2010s, he remained a constant threat whenever Barcelona faced their biggest rivals.
With Messi no longer playing in Spain, his record of 26 goals remains one of the most difficult El Clásico records for future players to challenge.
